In the region known as Los Santos—so named for its many saint-inspired communities—San Francisco sits about 30 minutes west of Coope Tarrazú’s central mill in San Marcos. Coffee is the area’s main economic driver, with some producers also growing avocados for diversification.

Around 70 farmers contribute to this community lot. Historically, harvest began on December 1st, but climate change has pushed the season up by as much as a month in 2024. Increased rain and hail have also impacted yields, damaging trees and knocking ripe cherries to the ground.
